Professor Dr Mohammed Zafar, former director of Institution of Marine Science and Fisheries of Chittagong University (CU), died at a hospital in the port city early Friday. He was 53.
He breathed his last at the National Hospital around 4am. He left behind his wife, a son and a daughter and a number of well-wishers to mourn his death.
Professor Dr Mohammed Asraful Azam Khan, chairman of the Institution, said he had been suffering from kidney disease for long.
His first Namaz–e-Janaza was held at CU central mosque after Jumma prayers while his second Janaza was held at the city.
He was buried at his family graveyard at Oxygen intersection in the city.
Professor Anwarul Azim Arif, vice-chancellor of CU, and Professor Ifthekar Uddin Chowdhury expressed deep shock at his death and conveyed sympathy to bereaved family members.
