Khagrachhari bus strike enters third day

Thousands of commuters of Khagrachhari have been facing communication disruption for the third consecutive day as the bus drivers’ strike entered its third day today. 

Bus Owners Association of the district imposed the indefinite strike on Khagrachhari-Pnchhari, Khagrachhari-Dighinala, Longudu-Dighinala, Bagaichhari-Dighinala road on Wednesday demanding ban on plying CNG-run auto-rickshaw and Mohendra tempos (human haler) on the hilly roads.

The protestors claimed that the CNG and Mohendro have been causing hamper in bus drivers business.

SM Shafi, secretary of Bus Owners Association, said they urged to the local administrative body to stop the CNG and human halers on the roads, but they did not met our demand.

He added that they will continue the strike to press home their demand.

Md Masud Karim, deputy commissioner of the district, said the administration could not meet the demand of bus owners as it was not legal to stop others’ business without any reason.

He added that all the CNGs and Mohendra tempos are plying on the roads through proper route permit.
