A foreign flag carrier vessel went inoperative at the outer anchorage of the Chittagong port as water gushed into the engine room following a head on collision with a local vessel early Tuesday.
Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) sources said the Panama flag carrier vessel MV Fortune Cloud reached the outer anchorage of the port around 12:30am with 33 thousand tons of cement clinkers.
Deputy Conservator of CPA Nazmul Alam said the captain failed to anchor the vessel as it lost balance after reaching the outer anchorage, adding that a head-on collision with a local vessel MV Abdullah took place at that time.
He also said the engine of the Fortune Cloud went inoperative after water entered into the engine room as a crack developed during the accident.
The rescue vessels of the port and Bangladesh Navy had been deployed to keep the vessel in a balanced condition, he added.
“The representative of the owner of the vessel had been asked to repair the vessel immediately,” he said.
