Truck workers blocked the Dhaka-Naogaon highway in Adamdighi upazila, Bogra, on Monday, afternoon protesting an alleged assault on one of their fellow workers at the hands of a local Juba League leader.
Later around 4:45pm, the workers withdrew their blockade for five hours upon request from police. They said agitation would continue until the Juba League leader Ruhul Dhali was arrested.
In the afternoon hours, several offices and establishments were reportedly vandalised in the area.
Police sources said truck worker Abul Kalam Azad was beaten up on Sunday evening after he had an altercation with Ruhul Dhali.
This sparked agitation among the local truck workers.
Shantahar police station Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman Mizan said five people had already been apprehended in connection with the alleged assault.
Rumours were circulating that the Juba League leader had since been expelled from his party.
