People from different walks of life paid their respects to Swadhin Bangla Betar pioneer and freedom fighter Belal Mohammad at Central Shaheed Minar on July 31.
His body was taken there around 11am. Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul Alam Hanif, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad, MP Mahfuza Khatun Baby Moudud, Bangla Academy Director General Shamsuzzaman Khan and representatives of different political, social and cultural organisations went there to pay respect to the poet.
On behalf of Dhaka district administration, Magistrate Amitav Talukdar gave a guard of honour to the freedom fighter.
FDCC Director Pijush Bandopadhay said: "Belal Mohammad was a great organiser and cultural person. The nation has lost a valued and irreplaceable citizen."
Shahariar Kabir of Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee said: "Belal Mohammad served everyone with his financial and mental support. He was a brave person who sacrificed a lot for the people."
Later his body was taken to Dhaka University Central Mosque for namaz-e-janaza.
