Andhra Pradesh, a team from India, won the Walton International Women’s Kabaddi tournament by beating West Bengal 25-23 in a hard-fought final at the Kabaddi stadium yesterday.
Earlier in the opening round, West Bengal had defeated Andhra Pradesh. Monika of Andhra Pradesh was adjudged the best player.
Daiba Tropa, a member of the winning side, was ecstatic at the result. “We only trained for 10 days. We never thought we could beat a giant team like West Bengal. It was an even contest. I’m really happy,” said Tropa. She also praised the hospitality her team found in Bangladesh.
President of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation Hasan Mahmud, IG, distributed the prizes to the winners as chief guest. Kabaddi Federation general secretary Md. Nazrul Islam and additional director of Walton FM Iqbal bin Anwar Dawn were also present on the occasion.
In the third-place match, BJMC, the only Bangladeshi team in the tourney, defeated Assam 16-11.
