Update : 05 Aug 2013, 02:00 AM

A team of low-paid workers in Dhaka is working for generating fake ""likes"" in Facebook pages only in exchange of as little as $120 (around Tk9,400) a year.

A Channel 4 Dispatches investigation revealed the way on how some of the businesses promote themselves on the internet by purchasing fake Facebook likes, Twitter followers and YouTube views.

The report states that the internet is full of people ""offering to cheat people's social media statistics"" and the name of Dhaka comes at the top of the list giving an impression that this fake business is prominent here.

Filmmaker Chris Atkins from Bangladesh introduced a local farm that works for generating fake Facebook likes. Russell, the manager of the firm, said increasing likes was one of the small sections of his business and claimed that some of the methods were legitimate. However, he put the blame on those who gave him the work, if it was seen as an immoral task.

The reporter asked Russell to have 100,000 views on a Facebook page. The youth demanded only $3 for per 1,000 clicks.

When the reporter gave Russell $15 to add 1,000 likes on a page, he ensured him that it would take three to four hours.
