Lailatul Qadr observed

Lailatul Qadr, believed to be a night of divine blessings and benediction for Muslims, was observed across the country on Monday night.

The Quran is said to have been was revealed to Prophet Mohammad (saw) on this night, to show mankind the path of worldly and eternal emancipation.

Muslim devotees spend the night seeking divine blessings, offering special prayers, reciting from the Quran, holding milads and observing other religious rituals.

A special congregational prayer arranged by the Islamic Foundation was held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Monday night.

Various television channels and radio stations aired special programmes and newspapers, and would publish special supplements highlighting the significance of the night.

President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia on Sunday greeted citizens and Muslims across the world on the night of Lailatul Qadr.

In separate messages, they prayed for continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country and the Muslim ummah.
