Different committees and sub-committees will prepare the reports reviewing the current state of 1,516 acres of additional of 39 SoEs.

Within next six months, they could submit the reports with recommendations to the cabinet committee on economic affairs, proposed Privatisation Commission recently. It may be mentioned that the present government has six months remaining of its five-year term.

The commission has sent a summary proposal of strengthening privatisation activities to improve private investment situation in the country.

"We have sent a proposal on lease of the additional lands of SoEs to the cabinet committee on economic affairs. It may be placed at the next meeting of the committee," Dr Mirza Abdul Jalil, PC Chairman, told the Dhaka Tribune Monday.

He said with the leasing out of the lands, the crisis would be solved for the local investors.

Privatisation commission will complete the process of lease out SoEs land short and long term to hand over lands, as per the proposal.

As per the proposal, the PC will also include the Public-Private Partnership Office, Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority, Board of Investment and other private sector development agencies in the leasing process.

It said the possible amount of money to be earned from lease will be Tk10m per acre. Through these handovers, the government exchequer will see a deposit of Tk15.16bn in a short time.

As per the proposal, the longest lease period will be 35 years. As a result, there will be a total of Tk50bn investment in two years from both local and foreign entrepreneurs.

PC estimates a number of 50,000 people will get jobs in the industrial establishments in the lands to be leased out.
