Two teachers among four killed in road accidents

Four people, including two teachers, were killed and 25 others injured in road accidents in Dinajpur and Comilla districts Wednesday.

In Dinajpur, a primary schoolteacher and a college teacher were killed and 15 people injured when a bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Satmile area on Dinajpur-Dhaka highway in Sadar upazila in the morning, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Faruk Ahmed, 50, the headmaster of Birganj Madanpur Government Primary School and a resident of Kasba of the district town, and Abdur Razzak, 45, a lecturer of Khanshama Pakerhat Degree College and president of Nijpara union unit of Awami League in Birganj upazila.

Witnesses said the ‘Madhab Paribahan’ bus coming from Thakurgaon skidded off the road and fell into the ditch around 8am as its driver lost control over the steering, killing the two teachers on the spot and injuring 15 passengers.

On information, Fire Service personnel rescued the injured and rushed them to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.

Traffic on the highway remained suspended for a few hours following the accident.

In Comilla, the driver and the helper of a truck were killed and 10 people injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck at Ganra in Chouddagram upazila in the afternoon.

The deceased were identified as truck driver Sheikh Farid, 35, of Feni, and its helper Shakir Khan, 30, of Debidwar upazila in Comilla.

Sub-inspector Ruhul Amin of Chouddagram police station said the Dhaka-bound BRTC bus from Chittagong collided head-on with the truck around 2:30pm, killing Farid on the spot and injuring 11 people.
