The decision came at a meeting held yesterday between Bangladesh Garments Manufactures and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence Dirtector General Brig Gen Ali Ahmed Khan.

Earlier, the BGMEA had suspended Utilisation Declaration (UD) facilities of 160 enterprises as they did not have 25% open space on the roof of the factory buildings.

After the Tazreen Fashion fire incident, the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense had directed the factory owners to vacate roofs of the factories. Later, responding to the owner’s request, it made mandatory to keep 25% open space on the roof of the garments factory.

This move was taken following Rana Plaza building collapse, which killed 1,127 workers, while over 2,500 sustained injuries.
