The Election Commission has finalised a draft to provide senior scale for 301 upazila election officers across the country in a bid to end discrimination among them.

The draft would be presented tomorrow at a full commission meeting for its approval.

Election Commissioner Md Shah Newaz yesterday said the commission would decide on the organisational structure of the Election Commission at its meeting tomorrow.

Four election commissioners, EC secretary, another Election Commission official and also an official of public administration include the committee.

The committee prepared the draft after holding a couple of meetings on the matter.

EC officials said there were about 512 upazila election officers under grade 9 in the country.

Besides, there are a of total of 100 other officials under the same grade in Election Training Institute, National Identity Card wing and EC secretariat.

Only 86 election officials get promotion while the rest retires from their service holding the same post.

Many election officials in the field level have already submitted their applications seeking promotion, sources in the EC said, adding that the field-level officials also brought out movement.

The committee recommended upgrading the posts of upazila election officers and giving them senior scale yielding to bureaucratic hurdles.

So far, the EC did not have a policy of how to promote the election officials.

In the face of movement by the election officials over the last couple of months, the Election Commission is going to find out a solution at tomorrow’s meeting.
