Income tax fair 2013 in mid-September

Update : 19 Aug 2013, 04:18 PM

The income tax fair this year would be held from September 16 as the National Board of Revenue (NBR) is taking preparation to hold the annual event.

The income tax day will be observed at the same time to aware taxpayers.

Officials at the NBR informed about the week-long event to take place during September 16-22, although the authorities have not officially declared the schedule yet.

They, however, said the NBR offices across the country have already been asked to take preparation for holding the event in mid-September.

“We have had a meeting and discussed about the issues should be done in creating awareness about tax payment. This year, we are emphasising on tax education,” said an official yesterday.

He said the fair will be held at all the 64 districts while divisional headquarters will observe seven daylong fair and district headquarters will observe 2-day fair. This year’s theme has been fixed as “Internet TIN registration absolutely easy.”

Finance Minister AMA Muhith would inaugurate the fair on September 16 at the Officers Club premises in Dhaka.

On the income tax day, NBR will award five top taxpayers from each district and five top taxpayers from each city corporation to honour them for their contribution to the revenue earnings.

The official said the revenue body has already prepared an initial list of taxpayers likely to qualify for the award. The list would, however, be scrutinised. After the scrutiny, the list will be forwarded to the finance ministry for approval.

The fair will remain open for visitors from 10am to 6pm. The visitors would be offered to get the electronic TIN registration instantly.

Last year, the revenue body collected Tk8.39bn income tax from the fair. A total of 347,523 people received services from the tax fair and the board had received tax returns from around 100,000 taxpayers. Fresh TIN was issued to 16,402 people.
