North Bengal passengers trapped in traffic gridlock

Update : 16 Aug 2013, 08:26 AM

Dhaka-bound passengers from Bogra were trapped Friday morning as none of the buses scheduled to depart from Bogra arrived in time from Dhaka.

The buses left Dhaka Thursday night and did not reach Bogra by Friday.

Passengers stuck in Bogra are largely those spending the Eid holidays with their near and dear ones at home.

People have been waiting at the bus stops in Bogra since morning as the movement came to a halt due to heavy traffic gridlock on the Dhaka-Bogra highway from Chandra to Tangail since last night.

As of the latest update no coach from Dhaka has reached Bogra.

Sources said the traffic gridlock stretched more than 6km in Sirajaganj.

Aminul Islam, joint secretary of the Motor Malik Samiti (Motor Owners Association) of Bogra said around 1,500 buses of different districts of the country’s North Bengal region that come to Dhaka through the district has been suffering due to the gridlock.

Meanwhile, the Gazipur correspondent says the traffic congestion that persists on the highway also disrupted transportation in the district as well.
