US President Barack Obama and the Philippines President Benigno Aquino III extended their best wishes to the prime minister and people of Bangladesh on the occasion of Eid.

"On behalf of the American people, I extend best wishes to you and the people of Bangladesh on the joyful occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr," the US President said in his message.

Obama said over the past month, Muslims in the United States and around the world shared the tradition of Ramadan with their families and friends, while drawing strength from their faith and helping those less fortunate.

He said the Islamic holy month of Ramadan was a time of renewal of reflection for Bangladesh's Muslim community. He wished good health, peace and prosperity for the people of Bangladesh and the prime minister.

Benigno Aquino III said in his message that he prayed for more blessings for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her family and the people of Bangladesh.

"May the ideals of Islam embodied in the observance of fasting, prayers, and offerings bring peace and greater understanding to mankind, most especially on this auspicious day," Acquino said.
