2 UPDF leaders sent to jail

Army officials yesterday arrested two leaders of United Peoples Demo-cratic Front (UPDF) from Khagrachhari town.   The arrested are Sumonta Tripura, 22, of Rengkong Para and Kiron Bikash Tripura, 25, of Wachu in Matiranga upazila, Khagrachhari.   Officer-in-Charge of Guimara police station, Bashir Ahmed, said they were detained by a patrol team from the Matiranga zone army for their alleged involvement in an abduction case and illegal toll collection. They were later handed over to the police. Police produced them before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in the afternoon and promptly sent them to jail having their bail pleas rejected, he added.
