A total of 10 candidates will contest the Naldanga union parishad by-polls, scheduled to be held on August 16.
The Election Commission (EC), after scrutinising the nomination papers of all the hopeful candidates, declared their nominations valid, Election Commission sources said.
The contesting candidates are Baby Khatun, the widow of the former chairman Ruhul Amin, Mohammad Alauddin, Idris Ali, Erfan Ali Biswas, Ohidul Alam, Jahangir Kabir, Jahangir Karim Babul, Rabiul Islam, Mohammad Saifuzzaman and Serajul Islam.
Returning Officer of the by-polls, Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman, said the position fell vacant as Ruhul Amin was killed at the Hamdah area in the municipality on the night of June 16 this year.
