Four people were killed and another six injured in a road accident on Barisal-Dhaka highway in Barisal yesterday.
Police said the accident took place when a head-on collision between a three wheeler and a truck happened in the morning around 9:30am, leaving one died on the spot.
Iqbal Hossain, Gournadi highway police station officer-in-charge, said the tempo was plying on Gournadi-Shikarpur route, while the truck was going to Muktagachha from Barisal.
After the accident agitated people blocked road, disrupted passenger vehicle’s movement in the area.
Abul Kalam, officer-in-charge of Gournadi police station, said police took the situation under control within a short time, and recovered the body.
Police and hospital sources said Biren Kirtania, 60, died on the spot, while Abul Kalam Khalifa alias Kalu, 26, an unidentified girl, 11, and another unidentified woman who was aged around 30 died at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Among the injured, Joyonta Bepari, 31, and Zamal Hossain, 45, were admitted at Gournadi Upazila Health Complex, while Babul Rari, 40, Sarwar Hossain, 44, Nuruddin, 35, and an unidentified girl, 13, were admitted at Barisal SBMCH in critical condition.
