DCs to join conference Tuesday

Update : 22 Jul 2013, 04:36 AM

Deputy commissioners (DC) from across the country are going to join the DC conference scheduled on July 23-25 in the city.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the programme at Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office Tuesday.

The three-day conference has been divided into 24 sessions. Of them, 20 are working sessions and the rest are inauguration and closing ceremonies.

The cabinet division will host the programmes at its secretariat.

The premier will talk to the DCs openly, listen to their demands and recommendations, and also give them directives keeping in mind the next general election.

The conference will focus on a number of demands the heads of the districts have already placed, including the return of magistracy power to DCs for holding summary trials.

The DCs lost their magistracy power in November 2007 when the judiciary was separated from the executive body.

The cabinet division has prepared a working paper in line with the demands that will be discussed in the conference.
