Jubo League infighting leaves 10 injured

The capital’s Gulistan area turned into a battle field as two factions of Jubo league, the ruling Awami League’s youth front, locked in a clash following a feud over the formation of a committee yesterday evening.

A tense atmosphere prevailed in the area as both factions engaged in a chase and counter-chase, creating panic among the people of the area. The clash left more than 10 injured.

Police fired rubber bullets and lobbed teargas canisters to bring the situation under control. They arrested three Jubo League men – Kamal Hossain, 32, Md Nuru, 30, and Delwar Hossain, 30.

According to police and witnesses, activists of two Jubo League factions – Rana’s group and Kabir’s group – engaged in a clash during Iftar, following a feud over the formation of a committee of Jubo League’s ward 26 unit.

Regarding the arrests, OC Golam Sarwar of Paltan police station said the situation created by the clash of the factions forced the law enofrcers to go into action and make the arrests. He said no case was filed in this connection yet.
