A Bangladeshi national was reportedly shot dead by a gang of extortionists in Johannesburg, South Africa early Saturday (Johannesburg time).
He was identified as Tajuddin of Sirajpur village at the Companyganj upazila, Noakhali.
Raihan Uddin, his elder brother, said Tajuddin went to the country about three years ago and owned a grocery shop there.
On Saturday, around 6am Bangladesh time, Tajuddin was talking to his elder brother over phone when a gang of 5-6 armed extortionists slid into his shop and demanded money at gunpoint.
“The gang, which also extorted money from Tajuddin before, opened fire on him suspecting him of trying to call in police for help,” Raihan added.
He also said the news of his brother’s being gunned down was later confirmed by his compatriots in Johannesburg.
However, no official confirmation and related details of the incident were found as of now.
