Tania Ahmed is one of the most popular stars of Bangladeshi small screen. The beautiful and gifted actor has made it possible with her proficiency and versatility in her career of almost two decades. She started as a TVC model and gradually became a distinguished actress. While many actresses of her generation disappeared gradually, Tania has proved her success by coping with the demand of time. She is a perfect example of an actress who has made it big in both her personal and professional life. In an interview with Dhaka Tribune, Tania shares various aspects of her career and personal life:
Your favourite role so far: It is very difficult to pick a single role from the sea of characters I have played all throughout my career. I was gifted with the opportunity to play many great roles, I am thankful to Sayedul Anam Tutul, Abu Sayeed and Giasuddin Selim for they have given me many scopes to play versatile characters. My special thank goes to Humayun Ahmed sir for presenting me with unusual and challenging characters to play that brought out the very best in me. I simply loved doing comedies under the direction of Salauddin Lavlu.
What is your dream role? Well, I am a fairytale lover and my dream role is to play Cinderella, I have admired her since my childhood. In general I really love watching animated movies and I have watched almost all of them. Whenever I get time, I sit with my family and make an occasion out of watching an animated film. One of my recent favourites is “Finding Nemo.”
Who is your most preferred co-star? I am a very flexible actor and also very comfortable with working along almost anyone. Whenever a drama gains popularity, I think 50% credit goes to my co-stars and I owe half my success to them. Khaled Khan is someone I would like to mention as I miss working with him, I owe a lot of what I have learned earlier in my career to him. I would also mention Jayanta Chattopaddhay who also taught me lots of tricks of the trade, such as voice modulation, where to put emphasis in a dialogue for desired effect and correct meaning and much more. I must also thank Tariq Anam for his boost in my learning process.
Your opinion on current scenario of TV plays: Professionally it is great as so many news channels have emerged since I have begun working. New faces have a great platform to start their acting career. A wide space is being created for artists from all spheres. But, there is also a drawback to this numerous channels. During our time, there were only one or two TV channels and we had the scope to hold the attention of the audience and create a lasting impact. Whereas now a day’s so many channels telecast so many different dramas that you have very little shot at creating a lasting impact on the audience and there is a greater chance of getting lost in the sea of channels and new faces.
How do you manage family and acting simultaneously? I believe discipline is the key word, if you arrange your schedule accordingly and with efficiency, you will be able to do a lot in the limited amount of time. I always make time for my family no matter what. I am not anyone’s employee, thus making time is comparatively easier for me, but I am sure that efficient management of time will provide everyone with similar opportunities.
