Prison guard arrested over fraud

A guard of Jessore Central Jail was arrested on Friday on charges of swindling a man out of Tk250,000 by promising a job. Saiful Islam, the arrestee, is from the Vimorolla village in Chuadnga.   Officer-in-charge of Kotowali police station Sheikh Emdad Hossain said Saiful, a resident of Gup Jail Road area of the town, had taken Tk250,000 from his neighbour Shariful Islam Mandal, a retired jailer, on December 11, 2011, promising to give his son a job.   Saiful never kept his word; instead bought time giving repeated dates.    Recently, the jail authorities transferred six guards, including Saiful, to Sylhet as punishment for various irregularities in the jail, the OC said. Shariful‘s family later caught him and handed over him to police.
