India has assured Bangladesh of handing over any killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman if they remained fugitive in the Indian territory.
The assurance came at a secretary-level meeting of the ministries of home affairs of the two neighbours held in New Delhi Friday.
At the talks Bangladesh provided the Indian side with some information on the present location of a few fugitive killers of Bangabandhu in India.
The Indian side said their authorities would trace if any killer of Bangabandhu had taken refuge anywhere in India and hand over them to Bangladesh.
Sources close to the talks told the BSS that issues of border agreement, killings of people on the frontier, trafficking of women and children, and cross border smuggling featured prominently at the meeting.
Secretary to the Home Ministry CQ Mostaque led the Bangladesh delegation at the talks while his Indian counterpart Anil Goshwami led the host side.
Asked if there was any discussion on handover of Anup Chetia, Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Tarik A Karim told the BSS that an extradition treaty between the two countries was under process.
