Update : 19 Jul 2013, 02:38 PM
Bangladeshi documentary on Sundarbans titled “The Last of The Bengals” has been selected in a prestigious German film festival NaturVision. The film will be screened today at the festival going on at Ludwigsburg.    This is the first-ever Bangladeshi film to be featured in the Germany’s oldest international nature and environmental film festival.  The three-day festival began on July 18 and features a number of the world’s most interesting and stunning documentaries and feature films related to nature, wildlife and environment. Around 80 films from 20 countries have been selected to the international film competition that awards prizes in nine categories.    The Last of The Bengals, produced by GREEN ink, portrays people of the Sundarbans and their daily struggle for survival on the backdrop of the mesmerising natural beauty of the area.    “NaturVision showcases films that deal with the beauty and fascination of nature and animals, but also wants to emphasise on the aspect of endangerment and threats to nature and animals. For this, The Last of The Bengals is an excellent example,” said Kay Hoffmann, NaturVision festival manager.   The documentary aims to raise awareness for the dire state of the Sundarbans ecosystem, Bangladesh’s one and only UNESCO World Heritage Site and last refuge of the Royal Bengal Tiger with an ever decreasing population.
