PM to inaugurate 500-bed Mugda General Hospital

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to inaugurate the Mugda General Hospital, the Tk1.1bn project of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), at capital’s Mugdapara, Khilgaon Friday.

The construction of the 13-storey public hospital on 9.52 acres of land has ended. Dr Mustafizur Rahman, Deputy Director (DD), Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) and Project Director (PD) of the hospital, said, the services will be limited in the beginning. However, outdoor and emergency unit will start from Saturday.

He said, upon completion the hospital will cater 160 cabins with 500 beds and three operation theatres with modern equipment.

Professor Dr Khondokar Md Sifayetullah, Director General of Health Service told the Dhaka Tribune, “There is no public hospital in the eastern part of the city. Therefore, the residents of Mothijeel, Shahjahanpur, Kamalapur, Khilgaon, Bashabo, Mugda, Rampura, Hazipara, Badda, Sayedabad, and Demra, have to rush to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and BSMMU for medical treatment.”

“Traffic congestion adds to their misery. MOHFW has built this hospital in order to ensure proper health services to the habitats of this area, especially the poorer community,” he added.

He said the Finance Ministry has sanctioned 650 posts of doctors, nurses, technologists and others. However, the hospital has appointed a few doctors, nurses and other technicians on deputation from other public hospitals before inauguration.

Dr Mustafizur Rahman said he got order of seven consultants, 18 medical officers, one Pharmacist, one radiologist, four Senior Staff nurses, one Office Assistant and one MLSS (Member of Lower Subordinate Staff). All of them have been appointed here on deputation or attachment.
