Update : 13 Jul 2013, 04:07 AM

Mahmuda Begum, assistant commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CPM), was the first female officer in Bangladesh as well as in the sub-continent who got Special Weapon and Tactics training provided by the USA. She has completed the 42-day-long training as a member of Crisis Response Team of Swat from May 28 to July 5.

With the assistance of Anti-Terrorism Assistance of the State Department of USA, she took training on risky rescue drives, special weapons handling, clash confrontation and anti-terrorism drives.

“During the training, there were 24 teams from different countries and I was the only lady officer that made me proud. But it was so challenging,” said Mahmud when talking to the Dhaka

Tribune. She expressed her will to apply the learned lessons to combat criminal activities.

“I had to do many tiresome tasks in the training that were hard for a woman but after completing this I think women can do anything like men,” she also said confidently.

More than 100 police officials of Bangladesh Police took Swat training so far and Mahmuda took part in the training this year and this team was the first team from CMP, said Banoj Kumar Majumder, additional commissioner of CMP.

Mahmuda’s achievement will encourage other female officials as well as the women of the nation, added Banoj.
