The import of Indian onions through Bhomra land port has doubled in quantity, as well as in price, in the past week, ahead of Ramadan, a port official said Thursday.
Businessmen are importing around 1,300 to 1,400 metric tons of onions on average from India daily, Assistant Commissioner of Bhomra Port Md Al Amin said.
Amin also said, 7,862 metric tons of onions, an essential item for Ramadan, were imported between July 2 and 9. However, the cost of the imported onions is now double than what it was last month, he added.
