A court in Bagerhat Wednesday sentenced six people to life imprisonment in the sensational school girl Tina killing case.
The lifers are: Rasel Hawlader, son of Abdus Salam Hawlader; Laltu Hawlader, his brother Obaidul Hawlader, sons of Moktar Hawlader; Jewel Hawlader, son of Sattar Hawlader; Mamun Hawlader, son of Rustam Hawlader of Khalkulia village; and Razzak Hawlader, son of Ukil Uddin Hawlader of Kalabaria village in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 1 lakh each, in default, to suffer one year more in prison, says a UNB report.
According to the prosecution, armed criminals kidnapped Masuma Khanam Tina, the then Class-IX student and daughter Shamsur Rahman of Khalkulia village, when she came out of her house to respond to the call of nature on February 4, 2004.
Her body was recovered from a water body near their house three days later. Victim’s father had filed a case in this connection.
After investigation, police submitted charge sheet against eight people.
After examining the records and witnesses, Judge M Abul Bashar Munshi of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal handed down the verdict.
The court also acquitted two other accused as allegations brought against them were not proved.
