Drishtipat to stage ‘Raja Himadri’ at Kolkata

Update : 09 Jul 2013, 01:30 PM
After a successful year of staging the play “Raja Himadri,” theatre troupe Drishtipat brings a special show, celebrating the occasion of International Bangla Theatre Festival, at Kolkata on July 23. The festival has been organised by Prachya Kolkata.    Moreover, “Raja Himadri” will be staged at Rabindra Bharaty University of Kolkata on July 24 and Kolkata Rialto will be oraganising it’s third staging at Tapan Theatre.    The play, which is the 21st production of Drishtipat, has been adapted from the Greek classic “Oedipus” by Sophocles and is directed by Dr Khandaker Tazmi Noor.    Last year, Drishtipat premiered “Raaja Himadri” which gives an interesting look to the great Greek tragedy.    Raja Himadri tells the story of King Himadri, a sympathetic and arrogant leader who was in search of his real identity. Himadri, the king of Himalayans, who ascends the throne after the killing of Chadnrashekher, is accepted as her husband by Indrani, the Queen of the Himalayans. King Himadri and his wife Himrani lives happily together until a stranger arrives one day and discloses Himadri’s dark secret. The secret opens a bleak chapter in the royal couple’s life and finally separates them.   The King Himadri seeks the answer to the question “who am I and where have I come from?” and becomes haunted when he encounters the truth. The cast of the soul-searching play includes Marjana Barkatun Borsha, Abdul Halim Aziz, Jahangir Kabir Bokul, Mrinmoy Chakraborty, Abul Hossain Ador, Shreya Khandakar and Rafiqul Islam.
