Four pirates were killed in a lynch-mob attack after a triangular gunfight in the Meghna River at Teliar Char in Tajumuddin upazila on Saturday afternoon, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Joynal, 51, the ringleader of ‘Joynal Bahini’ of Noakhali; Gias, 28, the linchpin of ‘Gias Bahini’ of the Monpura area and his associates Salauddin and Jahir.
Locals said a triangular gunfight ensued among three pirate gangs – one led by Joynal, another by Gias and the other by Swapon — in the river at about 11am.
The sporadic gun battle continued till the afternoon.
Meanwhile, locals caught the four pirates in the area at about 5:30pm when they were fleeing the gunfight.
Later, the angry mob beat them black and blue, leaving them dead on the spot.
Sub-inspector of Tajumuddin Police Station Humayan said they recovered the bodies from the spot.
