Re-polling underway in SCC ward 16

Update : 06 Jul 2013, 05:28 AM

Re-election in ward no 16 of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) is underway peacefully on Saturday.

Voting started at 8am and will continue till 4pm.

Assistant returning officer for SCC election Rashedul Islam said a number of law enforcers led by two magistrates were deployed in the four polling stations of the ward, reports UNB.

The need for re-polling in the ward inevitably came as its two councillor candidates–Jamal Ahmed and Abdul Muhit Jabed– got equal 1,774 votes in the city corporation polls on June 15.

Consequently, the Election Commission fixed July 6 for the re-election.

A total of 8,100 voters will cast votes in the four polling centers, including three at Kishorimohon Girls’ High School and one at Aided High School.

Only Jamal Ahmed and Abdul Muhit Jabed are contesting the polls.
