India qualify for FIBA U-16 Championship

India qualified for the final round of the FIBA Asia U-16 Championship by beating hosts Bangladesh 103-59, after having led 58-13 at half-time, at the Dhanmondi Basketball Gymnasium on July 4.

Talented Indian youngster Mahipal Singh scored 22 points and Maan added 14 points for the winners. Mehedi of Bangladesh caged 16 points while Jamil followed him with 14 points.

In the other match of the day Nepal outplayed Maldives 47-34. Anish Magar scored 16 and Kesang Thakuri contributed 9 points for the winners. Rishfan of Maldives was the highest scorer for his team with 16 points. With the win, Nepal finished 3rd in the four team tournament that started on July 3.

India, as expected will be representing South Asia in the U16 FIBA Asia Championship, scheduled to be held in Tehran, Iran on September 25-October 4, 2013.

Dr. Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, the president of Bangladesh Basketball Federation distributed the prizes as the chef guest. Shuman Bhattachraya, the director of human resources of Citycell was present as the special guest.
