A three-day electronic and digital innovation fair began at the city’s MA Aziz Stadium on Thursday.
The Chittagong district administration is hosting the event with an aim to provide a platform for participating companies to showcase their products, services and new innovations.
A total of 52 stalls were put up, and a range of organisations including universities, banks, online service providers and ICT companies, took part in the fair.
Mohammad Nazrul Islam, secretary of the ministry of information and communication technology, inaugurated the event earlier in the day.
In his speech as chief guest, Nazrul Islam said Bangladesh achieved significant progress in the ICT sector in recent years, with a growth rate “close to that of India”.
“Even a few years ago, the country had been lagging behind other Asian countries in terms of ICT, but now the situation has changed. We have one of the fastest-growing markets in the region, thanks to measures taken by the government,” he said.
He, however, stressed the importance of enhanced access for general people to information and communication technology.
Among others present at the inauguration ceremony were Abdul Mannan, deputy commissioner of Chittagong, Mohammad Abdullah, divisional commissioner of Chittagong, Ibrahim Khan, a professor at the CUET, and Iftekhar Monir, a professor at Premier University.
The fair will be open from 9am to 7pm and end on Saturday.
