Preparations had been made last night for the Araihazar Sadar and Gopaldi municipality polls in Narayanganj. Polling will be held in nine vote centres of each municipality. Administration in all the centres has been treated with equal importance.
There are twelve mayoral candidates for Araihazar sadar municipality and three for Gopaldi competing in the election race.
Araihazar sadar municipality was formed with 17,137 voters and Gopaldi with 24,523 voters.
However, the contest is expected to be held among the candidates backed by ruling Awami League and main opposition BNP. BNP has finalised their single mayoral candidate in two municipalities while Awami League has a candidate in each.
Police Super Syed Nurul Islam said five hundred police will be on duty in two polling centres. Besides, two additional SPs, two ASPs and two Inspectors will be assigned for the control of law and order.
Election Commissioner Brigadier Javed Ali in a visit at the upazila auditorium in Araihazar polling area told the mayoral candidates that the election will be held fair, without any disruptions.
Araihazar upazila Election Officer Md Morshed Alam also informed that two judicial magistrates and four executive magistrates will operate the mobile court.
