Bangladesh beat Maldives at basketball 44-37 in the 3rd FIBA Asia Championship U-16 qualifiers (South Asia Zone) at the Dhanmondi Basketball Gymnasium on July 3.
Mahin and Shishir of Bangladesh caged 14 points each and helped to stamp Bangladesh’s authority on the game.
Bangladesh, who earlier beat Nepal in their first encounter, will meet group champion contender India at 5:30pm on July 4 with the winner going through to the final round.
The champion team will represent South Asia in the U16 FIBA Asia Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Tehran, Iran between September 25 and October 4.
India will start as clear favourites to qualify for the 3rd U16 FIBA Championship for the third consecutive year against Bangladesh, but the host team will be looking to pose a stiff challenge as they eye the lone open spot.
South Asian Basketball Association has organised the three day qualifying round and Citycell is the sponsor of the event.
