The local government ministry has suspended Shushenjit Dash, chairman of Bodolpur Union Parishad of Habiganj’s Ajmiriganj upazila, on charges of misappropriation of Tk150,000 from the Local Governance Support Project (LGSP).
A memorandum signed by Local Government and Rural Development Deputy Secretary Kamrun Nahar was sent to the Habiganj deputy commissioner’s office on Thursday confirming the official suspension of the chairman, according to Banglanews.
In July last year, Shushenjit embezzled money from the LGSP under the pretext of buying navy ambulances, the memorandum said.
On July 29, 2012, Gouro Horidash, an inhabitant of Paharpur village under the union, sent a letter to the Habiganj deputy commissioner and the secretary of the ministry, bringing up the corruption.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (revenue) Dilip Kumar Bonik confirmed the matter and said: “After getting the probe report from the committee, the ministry has suspended Shusenjit Dash.”
