Law enforcers picked up 23 people early Thursday in Cox’s Bazar while they were attempting to go to Malaysia illegally through the Bay of Bengal.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and RAB, detained them in separate drives from Teknaf and Cox’s Bazar city.
Lieutenant Colonel Zahid Hasan, commanding officer of BGB 42 Battalion, said on a tip-off, they conducted a drive at Shahpori Island under Teknaf upazila of the district at around 1:00am and detained 13 people when they were sailing to Malaysia by boat.
Earlier, Rab-7 nabbed 10 people from SA Guest House of Cox’s Bazar town around 12:45am.
Major Sarwar-E-Alam, camp commander of Rab-7 Cox’s Bazar camp, said they handed over the ten to Cox’s Bazar Sadar police station and a case has been lodged in this connection.
