A leader of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) and another of the reformist group of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) were gunned down by miscreants in bordering Pujgang area in Panchhari upazila of the district on Thursday, reports UNB. The deceased were identified as Samir Chakma, 32, organiser of Panchhari upazila unit UPDF, and Jerman Chakma, 30, leader of Pujgang union unit PCJSS (Reformist).
Sources said a gang of armed miscreants fired shots at Samir and Jerman in the area at about 7:45am while they were gossiping at a tea stall, leaving Samir dead on the spot and Jerman critically injured.
Later, Jerman died on the way to hospital.
The miscreants also picked up one Shyamol Chakma, said to be an associate of the deceased, from the spot.
Nirin Chakma, spokesman of the UPDF, claimed that Santu Larma-backed armed miscreants committed the killings.
But PJSS denied the allegation.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-charge Alamgir Hossain of Panchhari police station said they recovered the bodies and sent those to the district hospital morgue for autopsy.
