Hoarders to face the music in Ramadan: MK Alamgir

Update : 03 Jul 2013, 09:51 AM

Home Minister MK Alamgir has pledged strict legal action against businessmen guilty of wrongdoing causing the price of commodities to shoot up.

The minister issued the warning at an inter-ministerial meeting on vigilance during Ramadan and keeping commodity prices stable at his secretariat office on Wednesday.

He said mobile courts would conduct constant drives to control illegal activities, if needed.

“It was decided in the meeting that the mobile courts will keep checking on different markets across the country so that sellers do not ask higher prices of commodities. The government will try to ensure sufficient supply of essential products during Ramadan period,” the minister told reporters after the meeting.

He assured that the government would keep a leash on criminal activities and extortion during Ramadan, in a bid to keep commodity prices under control.

He directed the authorities concerned to ensure uninterrupted supply of power, gas and water during Sehri and Iftar times.

State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku, the ministry’s Additional Secretary Mainuddin Khandokar and representatives of a number other ministries, divisions and agencies attended the meeting.
