Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Tuesday recovered a dowry victim from confinement condition and arrested her husband during a drive at Rupshi village of Rupganj police station.
The victim was identified as Mousumi Akter, 24, daughter of Sorfuddin Mia and wife of Emdadul Haq Pavel Hossain.
RAB arrested her husband Emdadul Haq Pavel Hossain, 30, son of Murapara union parishad’s incumbent chairman Hazi Borkotullah.
The victim filed a case with the Rupganj police station accusing her husband Emdadul Haq Pavel, father in law Hazi Borkotullah and mother in law Shahida Begum of confining her to a room and torturing indiscriminately, demanding Tk200,000 as dowry.
Mousumi added that, Pavel, a resident of the same village, married her three years ago and the couple has a two and a half year old daughter named, Jannat.
The husband, who turned out to be a drug addict, physically tortured her for the last one year, insisting to pay up TK200,000 as dowry. Her father in law and mother in law also tortured her in the same demand.
Commanding officer of Rab-11 Lieutenant Colonel Jahangir Alam said, one of Mousumi’s relatives informed them about her confinement. Later, Rab rescued her wounded.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of Rupganj police station Md Asaduzzaman said they carried out a raid to arrest the three accused, but could not find them at their house.
