A Sylhet court Monday sentenced a woman to eight years in prison in a case of illegal drug peddling.
She was also fined Tk4,000, a default amount for those who get imprisoned for four months or more.
Fahmida Kader, additional session judge, delivered the verdict to Toinsa Begum, wife of Babla mia, from Musargaon under South Surma upazilla of the district.
Police said Toinsa was involved in the heroin business.
According to the case description, Rapid Action Battalion members arrested Toinsa at the terminal area of the city along with 30 puria [a small amount] of heroin on March 9, 2007.
RAB lodged a case at the Kotwali Police station in this connection.
Sub Inspector Shahnaz Parvin submitted charge sheet against her on March 25, 2007. The trial began on June 14 of the same year and amongst the 11 witness, 7 testified.
