Narayanganj sadar upazila’s administration plans to launch a three-day long eviction drive in order to rescue canals from encroachers and to mitigate waterlogging in the area.
In last Sunday’s meeting chaired by Gausul Azam, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), a 72-hour ultimatum was given to illegal occupiers to remove all structures from the canals.
If the order is not followed, a mobile court will launch a drive to demolish all illegal constructed structures, said the administration.
The UNO said illegal structures on and near the canals have made the areas vulnerable to inundation during the monsoon season.
Among others, Fatema Monir, vice-chairman of Narayanganj sadar upazila, Lutfar Rahman Swapon, chairman of Fotulla union and Nowshed Ali, chairman of Gogongor union, were also present at the meeting.
