The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury on Thursday requested people to file complaints at their nearest police stations against people or groups, who demand bribes using the name of the graft body.
He said: “We have received several complaints from people about several group of fraudsters who use the identity of commission officials to demand bribes from government and private service holders to release them of charges, which are being filed by the commission.”
“There is no way of releasing a person’s name from the charges according to someone’s wish. According to the commission’s procedure, the investigation official (IO), with written documents will let the person (who is allegedly involved with the case) know about the issue”, he said.
“There is no way of investigating a person outside the commission and interrogating someone over phone is strictly prohibited at the commission,” he added.
He made the observation at the monthly press briefing in the ACC headquarter on Thursday.
The secretary said the commission took notice of almost 1059 complaints in May, among which, 115 cases were considered for further investigations following scrutiny.
Faizur said, the commission approved filing of 27 cases against 44 people last month on various corruption charges.
Among the 44, 24 were government service holders, two businessmen and 18 others, he added.
He said: “The commission approved 58 charge sheets against 140 people while permission for 52 final probe reports was approved.”
The secretary also said in May, judgment on nine cases investigated by the ACC was pronounced.
“Four people were convicted in cases while eight people were released of charges”, he added.
