Jica official, wife killed in city fire

An official of Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) and his wife were burned to death and their son suffered serious burn injuries as a fire broke out in their Khilgaon house on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Sirajullah, 50, a consultant of Jica and former deputy director of department of primary and mass education, and his wife Kanij Fatmea, 40.

Police said the fire, originated from an electric short circuit in Sirajullah’s house, broke out around 7:30am, reports UNB.

Sirajullah, his wife Kanij and son Safayet, 24, a student of engineering department of American International University of Bangladesh, suffered serious burn injuries in the fire.

They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Burn unit where Kanij Fatema succumbed to her wounds around 8:30 am while Sirajullah died at about 1pm.
