UK to introduce financial bonds for risk visitors

Update : 25 Jun 2013, 03:20 PM

The United Kingdom has planned to trial the use of immigration bonds, the British High Commission said in a statement, released on Tuesday.

"The UK government has already announced its intention to trial the use of financial bonds as a way of tackling abuse in the immigration system. The details of the policy are still being finalised. Bangladesh is being considered as a pilot country but no final decision has been made. Any scheme would only affect a small number of the highest risk visitors," the statement said.

Earlier, some other countries including Australia and New Zealand applied similar schemes to mitigate the risk of visitors overstaying their visa. Australia and New Zealand set financial bonds at between Aus$5,000 and Aus$15,000 and NZ$5,000 and NZ$10,000, it added.
