ICT: Charges against Faridpur BNP leader submitted

Prosecution on Sunday submitted formal charges in the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against BNP leader Zahid Hossain Khokon from Nagarkanda in Fridpur.

A prosecutor accused Khokon of 10 charges including rape, looting and torture on minorities which he had been committed during the 1971 Liberation War.

Besides, the prosecution also sought for issuing arrest warrant against Khokon, also known as ‘Khokon Razakar’.

Earlier on May 29, investigation panel probing crimes against humanity submitted report against Khokon. The report accused Khokon of 13 charges including rape, arson, looting, mas killing, and genocide.

Khokon has reportedly been on the run. 

After submitting formal charges, a prosecutor Mokhlesur Rahman Badal said: “We submitted formal charges bringing 10 allegations against him (Khokon). The allegations include murder, mass killing, genocide, looting, rape and torture on Hindus. We have got enough evidences to prove the charges placed against him.”    

In the report, it was claimed that Khokon had ordered killing of at least 50 unarmed people including women and child, killed three persons by arson, wounded eight more, raped two women, abducted and tortured 17 people, and forcefully converted religion of 16 villagers.
