Six-point demand to protect Dhanmondi playground

Dhanmondi Maath Rokkha Andolon Committee put forward a six-point charter of demand to preserve the diminishing Dhanmondi playground.

The committee, which has been spearheading the playground preservation movement, made the demands at a protest gathering held at the Shagor-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity yesterday.

The speakers demanded implementation of a High Court order that directed the opening of the ground to public and removal of illegal infrastructures constructed by Sheikh Jamal Club on the field.

Other demands include: handing over the responsibility of the ground preservation and development to Public Works Department, engaging locals and sportsmen with the management of the ground, constructing a playground for each ward in accordance with prime minister’s announcement and restoration of all illegally encroached fields and parks.

Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan President Mobasser Hossain, General Secretary Dr Abdul Matin and Prof Nazrul Islam, among others, were present at the gathering.
