The Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk) will work together aiming to resolve numerous issues in the housing sector and addressing the problems faced in obtaining a building design approval.
REHAB leaders issued a proposal to Rajuk Chairman Nurul Huda regarding the matter during a meeting at Rajuk Bhaban in the city, on June 11, and discussed how they can work together in future.
Accepting their proposal, the Rajuk chairman suggested the formation of a liaison committee comprising experts from Rajuk and REHAB hoping that if the committee works properly a number of problems in the housing sector will be solved.
Meanwhile, Executive Director of TIB, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, told the Dhaka Tribune: “The idea is good, if it can be implemented. But the implementation is not possible, since REHAB has not yet proven themselves as an impartial organisation.”
There is already an allegation that common people have to go through a lot in obtaining a building design approval for their buildings’ architectural designs due to Rajuk’s complex laws, but the real estate companies get approval facing any difficulty, he said.
If REHAB was to be included with processing the design approval, the woes of public will increase, he assumed.
Common people have to pay extra fees to move their files quickly from one desk to another, he added.
They also apprehended that the collaboration between Rajuk and REHAB would open doors for opportunists.
REHAB General Secretary Md Wahiduzzaman told the Dhaka tribune: “We have proposed the Rajuk chairman to work together for developing the real estate and housing sector. Rajuk chairman also suggested that we should form a liaison committee to maintain accountability and transparency.”
“We will give details about the applicant’s design which will be submitted for Rajuk’s approval.”
