A total of 26,829 applications were submitted to Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited for legalising their connections by the deadline Thursday.
The applications account for only about 30% of all the illegal gas connections as Titas says there are a total of 86,059 illegal gas connections.
Titas Gas acting managing director Md Nowshad Islam told the Dhaka Tribune Thursday that there were also 71,000 applications for extensions and new connections.
He urged people to deposit money by June 20 to legalise their connections and warned that failing to do so may lead to legal action.
Petrobangla, the state-owned gas and oil company, extended the deadline for legalising domestic gas connections by 21 days shifting it to June 20 from May 30.
According to Petrobangla, the company received a total of Tk11.68bn in gas bills in 2011-12 fiscal from 57,414 illegal household connections.
